Safety data sheets - New requirements from 2023

With effect from January 1, 2023, all safety data sheets (newly drawn up and existing) must be in accordance with the aforementioned Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878. Our company will provide you with advice and preparation of safety data sheets according to the latest legislation.

Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/878 amends Annex II to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council (the REACH Regulation), which sets out requirements for the compilation of safety data sheets used to provide information on chemical substances and mixtures in EU countries .

The most important changes to the provisions and format of the safety data sheet include:

  • introduction of specific requirements for nanoforms;
  • incorporation into EU law of the 6th and 7th revisions of the GHS;
  • the obligation to state specific requirements for substances and mixtures with endocrine disrupting properties;
  • the obligation to provide specific concentration limits, multiplication factors and estimates of acute toxicity (section 3.1 and 3.2);
  • the placement of the Unique Formulation Identifier (UFI) in the safety data sheet has been clarified in section 1.1.

In the safety data sheet, the UFI is only required for some bulk mixtures. In the case of hazardous mixtures supplied for use in industrial facilities, the UFI may be indicated only in the safety data sheet instead of on the packaging.
