New EU Directives for Product Sustainability and Safety

Ecological and safety standards bring significant changes

In July 2024, the new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) came into effect. This regulation expanded ecological requirements to a broader range of products, requiring them to be more durable, easier to repair, and contain more recycled materials. Additionally, the Digital Product Passport was introduced, providing information about each product’s sustainability, supporting the circular economy(European Commission)(Ecochain).

Furthermore, on December 13, 2024, the new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) will become effective, modernizing the EU's product safety framework. This regulation introduces new rules for businesses, including enhanced product traceability and improved efficiency in recalling dangerous products from the market(European Commission)(Environment).

These new directives aim to promote more sustainable and safer products on the European market, protecting consumers and the environment.
